Spring is in the air!!!

With my kind of work I have to plan ahead. In my mind Christmas is already over and I have started creating for the March show. Love my teacups that have been sitting on a shelf for a couple of months. Before and After Night Stand

I was hesitant on purchasing this nightstand. The shape didn't shout "Buy me, Buy me" but it reminded me of my Nonna's night stands so I took this beauty home.

I had to sand this piece a little but usually if is not shiny I do clean it with clorox wipes and start painting.

For this piece I used two appliques, one for the drawer and one on the bottom of the cabinet.

I used 527 glue to attach the appliques. It's stronger the wood glue but you can always use E-6000

My appliques are made out a hard resin like plastic and since the drawer and bottom are curved I kept them in the sun for a while to soften them up and be able to curve them with the shape of the drawer.

The pieces are white and ready to be stained. I use any stain that I have around. This one is minwax and you can purchase any shades you like, from really dark oak to light pine. It all depends how dark you want it. If you don't have wood stain and you have brown paint add some water to it and it will create the same effect.

Brush it on

Wipe it off as much as you can before it dries. For larger areas work in small sections.

As I promised last week on White Wednesday, here is a before and after of one of the projects that I worked on a couple of weeks ago.

The File Box

First thing to go were the handles. But still could not make up my mind, first I chose these depression glass but as you will see at the end I decided on clear glass handles.

Lucky me my Deano sprayed everything Opal white for me. This Opal white is " Eggshell Opal White from Glidden"

By using a Black Patina I dipped all the metal parts in it and wiped clean to give the antique look.

Then I changed my mind and painted the outside of the box a antique pink.

Not liking the green knobs I changed them for

the clear glass knobs.

"White Wednesday"

Bella (dress form) is getting ready for a soldering class that I will be teaching this Saturday. Looking forward to see old students and new ones. In the mean time I built a divider for my self. The divider is made out of remnants from cabinets that I am building for Jackie.

I started with 12" wide x 6 feet MDF.

Made a pattern with paper and traced it on the wood and used the jig saw to cut the curves.

I do make my own applique so I have the fortune to produce as many as I need and play with it. I have some for sale on etsy too.

Two coats of cream eggshell paint, 4 hinges and voila'. I have a room divider.

Next I had two cabinet doors and I decided to make chalk board out of it. They remind me of the menu boards.

Did I ever tell you how I started teaching soldering classes or how I learned?

I learned how to solder with the help of Denise, a wonderful artist from Temecula, Ca. She sells her goodies at Serendipity, in Old Town Temecula. She taught me the basics of soldering and how to cut glass. I never thought to continue on practicing and teaching but I believe that the economy and not selling as much woodwork pushed me. I love teaching and to see all the ladies get together in my workshop and enjoy the day in Rainbow makes me happy.

My first class was at La Maison Rustique, first EVER soldering class and I only charged $20.00! We made this pen. I still love it but don't drop it, it's glass,lol. I was not an expert and every body brought their own soldering irons but only 3 worked. With 12 students and 3 soldering irons I though my first class. Thank you to the students that made me feel comfortable and still take my classes I am still here, and it can only get better.

Now I am overwhelmed by the response on my classes that I wish I could have the energy and time to teach every week.

Il Giardino Segreto

The Secret Garden

I used a round pattern for the top of the gate and cut with a jig saw .

....can't paint roses and I have a hard time with color, as most of you know I wear gray and black and almost all my furniture is painted white. I decided to try some color on the basket. Not bad!

I traced the words using carbon paper, took a little while to get the words curved the right way. Is there a program for the computer that will do that automatically?
